Windows and Mac OS both serve the same purpose and execute the same core function, the goal is to see the differences in the execution of these Apples Mac OS was first released in 1984 to serve as the Operating system for their line of personal computers. When released the marketing for the Operating system focused on the ease of use unlike any other personal computer (PC) at the time. The user interface was graphically based compared to typing commands directory paths at text prompts, users used a mouse to navigate Finder which housed icons representing folders and files. This inspired most computers to move to the GUI or Graphical User Interface that we are accustomed to today. Later versions of Mac OS offered features like file sharing over the Internet, network browsing, and multiple user accounts. Apart from a brief period in the early 1990s when Apple licensed Microsoft to use parts of Mac technologies, Mac OS was never licensed to use of the Operating system to any other computer manufacturers. In 1996 Apple acquired NeXt Computers. Steven Jobs developed NeXT Computers after leaving Apple. In 2001, after the return o f Steve Jobs, Apple released OS X a major redesign. OS X was based on the most recent release of Mac OS and the NextStep system. OS X ran on UNIX kernel as its core software code, this offered technical advances. Some advancements offered by OS X included; memory protection, preemptive multitasking, Finder became more versatile, Aqua interface was introduced, and the Dock bar to launch frequently used applications. Beginning in 2007 Apple released a number of mobile devices with Internet connectivity. The iPhone smart phone and iPad their tablet computer were among those released. Mac OSs ability to connect with these devices was a selling point for the mobile products. In April 2010 a voice assistant Application was acquired by Apple Inc., the assistant was introduced in the 4S release of the iPhone. Siri the digital voice assistant would go on to be incorporated in many Apple products. In 2011 Apple offered cloud computing, their release of iCloud allowed users to share data amon g all of their Apple devices whether they were running Mas OS X or their mobile operating system iOS. Subsequent release included Apple Watch their smart watch running watchOS and more connectivity features. Today, roughly ninety percent of personal computer run a version of Microsoft Windows. Windows OS developed by windows to run personal computers featured the first graphical user interface for IBM compatible personal computers. Microsoft released the first version of Windows in 1985. Windows was an extension of Microsofts existing operating system MS-DOS with the added GUI. This was a result was due in part on the licensed Apple Inc. concepts. The 2015 release of Windows 10 introduced Cortana a digital personal assistant similar to Apples Siri, and a new improved web browser. Windows announced that Windows 10 would be the final version of Windows, updates will still occur but no large scale revisions. A process is a program in execution. The operating system is responsible for process creation and termination, resuming and pausing, as well as support for synchronization and communication. In Windows every process contains one or more thread(s). A Windows thread is a basic executable unit. Gazing into the Abyss in Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Friedrich Nietzsche once said, â€Å"If you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you†. Lord of the Flies is a novel by William Golding written in 1954, centering on a group of boys stuck on an island who unsuccessfully attempt to govern themselves. They struggle against fear of outside forces as well as themselves, and the reader observes as they lose their innocence and slowly decline from civility in all its forms. In his novel, Lord of the Flies, William S. Golding portrays the theme that society can be corrupted because individuals are naturally corrupt through his use of the symbols of the beast, Piggy’s glasses, and the fire. William S. Golding uses the symbol of the beast to convey how individuals can be corrupted because fear and hate make people selfish and savage. In chapter 9, Simon discovers that the so-called beast is actually a dead parachuter. He goes to Castle Rock to inform the rest of the boys, who are having a feast off the pig Jack killed. Answer : Introduction Over the last few years, work and its role has taken center stage in various public discussions given the speed with which its changing. The workplace of today is significantly different to those of earlier years in many ways among them the composition of the workforce. Today its normal to find up to three generations working together (Heerwagen 2016). Various scholars have attributed these changes to four different factors which include technological changes like the introduction of computers making clerical work a lot easier and introduction of new laws and regulations governing labor relations. Further, market globalization has created increased competition forcing companies to device other ways like outsourcing of services in order to remain competitive and profitable. Changing demography has also seen an increase in women in the workforce, improved cultural and racial diversity and increased education standards which creates heterogeneity of the workforce. With these four factor s continuing to change, we can only expect more changes in the workplace and the composition of the workforce in the next few years. This paper therefore seeks to discuss management education and workplace skills in relation to the changing workplace and labor force. It will examine available evidence on the changing nature of work and workforce and further evaluate its implications on employees, their managers and the organization in general. The goal is to better equip the organizational decision makers and other employees with the right knowledge to help them make sound decisions regarding their career progression and remain relevant going into the future. The effects of the changing workplace on workers and managers Changing workplace can have both positive and negative impacts depending on the adaptability of the workers and the managers. Some of the major areas affected are the workplace skills and management education. There has been a need for a change in skills and education to be able to cope with these changes. The following changes have impacted workplace skills and management education differently. Advancement in technology The recent changes in technological infrastructure can only be compared to transformations that took place during the first and second industrial revolution considering the level with which it has impacted on work. Computer integrated manufacturing, electronic data exchange, digital communications and other technological advances have greatly contributed to the changes in skills and management education. For example nearly three billion people had access to the internet in 2015 (Internet World Stats 2015). The workforce in now required to possess new skill that were never of any importance previously (Cummings Bailenson 2015). For instance, the introduction of computers has prompted organizations to hire computer literate workers. New occupations have also been introduced into the workplace while others have been transformed or even totally done away with. For example, almost all organizations now have IT departments hence the need to have IT specialists. Existing ones such as cleri cal work has become so computerized that clerks must now have computer knowledge as the most basic skill. Technology has also changed management education in that training in digital technologies has become an important part of the curriculum. Nearly all managers are now required to computer literate. Changing demography of the workforce The three major demographical changes in the workplace are, the aging workforce, breadwinner women and stay at home men which has increased the number of women in the workforce and the millennial generation. According to Bloomberg Business 2014, the share of American workers of ages 55 and above reached 22 percent, the highest ever recorded. This is mainly due to the increased cost of living hence the need to work longer. With the millennial generation also entering the job market, up to three generations may end up working together. These millennials brings new skill to the job market like technological knowledge which may be helpful but can also be destructive if not properly managed (Butts et al 2015). While this is positive in that the older generation can mentor the younger ones, it has some negative effects (Kulik et al 2014). Chiefly among them are their different expectations and hence their level of job satisfaction. The younger generations may have some expectations such as unlimited time off and mentoring while the older generations are more concerned with remuneration, work location and environment. The rise of women as heads of families has also forced most of them into the job market. The number of women in the workforce has never been this high. These demographic changes have brought change in management education in that emphasis is being placed on how all these groups can be managed effectively leading to job satisfaction and higher productivity (Gruber et al 2015). Changes in laws and regulations governing work A number of laws and regulations regarding employment relations that affect workplace skills and management education have been passed over the last few years. Many barriers that previously limited the opportunities for minority races, people with disabilities, youths and women in the workplace have been eliminated. New groups of workers with special skills have been created as a result. New labor laws also require employers to give employees a chance for continuing education and advancement in their careers hence improved skills in the work place. This has also affected management education in that managers are required to implement these laws in their departments hence the need to be trained on them. Globalization of markets Globalization of markets has led to cultural diversity in the workforce. There is therefore need for new policies and guidelines to address these differences. Employee trainings in areas of tolerance have been undertaken to prevent discrimination in the workplace. Managers are also educated on the need to device and implement policies that are sensitive to cultural diversity and discourage discrimination (Glen Baughn 2014). Conclusion With change in workplace and workforce composition expected to continue, managers need to device new methods of mitigating the strains and dilemmas facing management education and workforce skills. For instance management education needs to be made a continuous process and not just a one-time qualification as it used to be. This is because its the best possible method of ensuring managers are aware of the current issues in management. The workforce should also be trained regularly to ensure that they attain the current skills needed in their areas of specialization. Incentives such as education loans and leave can also be used to encourage employees to acquire new skills and remain relevant. These men and others rejected Thomas Jeffersons strategy of peaceful coercion. These speakers could ignite a crowd and stir up aggressiveness towardsthe British. There had been no new attackson the high seas and at the time Madison called for war, British Governmentwas suspending the Orders in Council. This was an appeasing gesturethat in all likelihood would have preserved the peace. Madison never really wanted the annexationof Canada; he was merely pushed into the decision. There were threeattempts to invade Canada and they all failed. Toronto, the capital ofCanada was assaulted and burned to the ground in the Battle of York April27, 1813. Two more attempts were made and the struggling United StatesArmy was pushed back. British naval ships blockaded all major portsand no ships were allowed to leave or enter. As successful as the British troops wereon land, the high seas belonged to the Americans. Captain Isaac Hullsship, the Constitution won a major battle against the HMS Guerriere andAmerican privateers crushed or captured a number of British merchant ships. On September 13,1813, Oliver Hazard Perry commanded a decisive Americannaval victory at the Battle of Lake Erie. In October of that sameyear, Indian Chief Tecumseh was killed at the Battle of Thames, a UnitedStates victory. In March of 1814, Andrew Jackson scored a victoryat the Battle of Horseshoe Bend over the Creek Indians. By this timethe British were already tired of the war and it was costing them too muchmoney. As the threat of Napoleon decreased inEurope, the British navy increased in size and power in North America. The naval blockades in American ports became much stronger than they wereever before. Sir George Prevost, commander of the British forceshastily entered upper New York State; an American fleet headed by CaptainThomas Macdonough was waiting to turn him back. The Battle of Plattsburghwas an American victory and it secured a northern border between the twocountries. Andrew Jackson became a national hero and gave the United States a much-neededsense of pride. I think the War of 1812 was the turningpoint in American independence. It marked the end of the United Statesdependence on Great Britain and the Americans totally accepted it. The War also contributed to the strengthening of Canada. In the endthe United States finally became its own nation.
